All About Balance

I decided to use this ’trip off the tongue’ phrase as the name for my business because I feel that it illustrates well the philosophy that underpins my approach to my work (and life in general).

I believe that sometimes you need to ‘tighten your belt' in terms of diet and shift some unhelpful habits in order to support your body back to balance. A personalised supplement programme can also be invaluable in speeding up this process.

A well-nourished and well-balanced body should be robust enough to cope with some treats and indulgences; the answer to health is not major deprivation of ‘all things nice’. My role is to help clients discover what suits their body; this naturally results in them finding the right balance for themselves.

My Professional Background

Initially trained as an Occupational Therapist, I worked very successfully in that field for 13 years. Like many other alternative therapists, my interest in Nutrition and Kinesiology has gradually developed through several episodes of significant personal ill-health (the main ones were severe IBS and inflammatory lung disease). Extensive clinical investigations failed to find out what was really going on.

During my own journey to health, I became increasingly aware that, if you want long-term health and vitality, it's vital to get to the root of the problem. To achieve and maintain optimal health, we need to discover the causes of imbalances in the body.

Kinesiology is a perfect medium for discovering such imbalances and Naturopathic Nutrition is ideal for providing solutions in the form of what, how and when to eat.

Between 2001 and 2004 I achieved a Diploma in Naturopathic Nutrition from the Plaskett College and an Advanced Diploma in Classical Kinesiology from the Institute of Classical Kinesiology, where I was also awarded Student of the Year accolade. Each subject beautifully complements the other.

Through my studies and practical experience, I discovered that combining knowledge of the body’s nutritional needs with the tool of muscle-testing is an excellent way to tune in to the unique needs of every individual. My skills in Kinesiology and Nutrition mean I can offer truly holistic and effective solutions to people's health problems.

Being a mother with a young family, I am continually faced with the challenge of getting the balance right between my children’s need for healthy nutrition and their desire to indulge in the vast array of ‘treats/trash’ available. Children’s nutritional needs and quick, manageable healthy family eating have become areas of particular interest.

Long-standing experience of dairy-free, wheat-free and gluten-free diets (and family experience of coeliac disease) means I am well-versed in devising healthy menus—including vegetarian meals—that the whole family can eat. Over the years, I have developed a wide variety of delicious suggestions.

I often give talks to local community groups and businesses, or simply groups of friends in the comfort of their own home. Popular topics are children’s nutrition, women’s health issues and stress at work.
